Dubrovnik Chamber Choir

 

DUBROVNIK CHAMBER CHOIR consists of about 30 amateur singers, mainly younger generation. Immediately after its foundation, in the beginning of 1994, the choir has imposed high professional criteria. Purity of intonation, soft sound, and above all, the specific expressiveness, raise them in to the top of Croatian choir singing.

Although it cherishes a capella singing, it often cooperates with respectable orchestras, conductors and soloists. The coir's repertory is very wide (from Gregorian chorals to the 20th century compositions), and the special attention has been given to the Croatian choral literature.

On the choir competition in Zadar (1995.), choir wins "The nun’s Cika silver cross"; on the 1st International choir competition (Zadar, 1997.), choir wins "The nun’s Cika bronze cross"» as the best ranked choir from Croatia.

On the 2nd International choir competition (Zadar 1999.), as the top-ranked choir, wins "The nun’s Cika silver cross", and special prize hand by the Croatian composers society for the best performed composition of Croatian author.

On the 5th International choir competition (Zadar 2005.), choir wins "The nun's Cika bronze cross".

On the 6th International choir competition (Zadar 2007.), choir wins "The nun's Cika bronze cross".

Dubrovnik chamber choir often performs on choir gatherings and festivals, and it is especially valuably to mention, its successful tours along Sweden (Helsingborg, September 1997.), Italy (Teramo, September 2001.), Hungary (Budapest, November 2002.), Czech (Praha, December 2006.), Austria (Vienna, December 2007.), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, December 2008.).

Choir is the laureate of «Milka Trnina» prize for the year of 2000 which is established by the Croatian composers society.

From the year 1994., the choir is constant participant of the Dubrovnik summer festival, and from its foundation, choir is conducted by maestro Frano Krasovac. Mr Krasovac has won «Orlando» (1999.) for the concert with Dubrovnik chamber choir on 51st Dubrovnik summer festival. He was also awarded by City of Dubrovnik for the year 2003, for the long time devoted artistic work.

The Dubrovnik chamber choir is a founder of International choir festival, which is being held in Dubrovnik since 2004.


Frano Krasovac - ConductorFRANO KRASOVAC was born in Dubrovnik where he has studied the music in the Music school “Luka Sorkočević” in the class of professor Radojka Jordanović. From 1975. to 1979. he has studied the piano at professor's Dubravka Tomšić class, and directing at professor’s Anton Nanut class, at the Musical academy in Ljubljana.

He was the head conductor of the Mostar symphonic orchestra from 1980. to 1982., and after that he became piano professor in the Music school “Luka Sorkočević”.

From 1993. to 1997. he was the head conductor of the Dubrovnik symphonic orchestra.

For the performance of Beethoven's 7th symphony, Krasovac has been awarded with the" France Prešern "prize.

As the pianist and conductor, he often gives guest performances in Croatia and abroad. He was one of the founders of Dubrovnik Chamber choir and is still its conductor. He had a remarkable performance on Dubrovnik summer festival in 1994 with the choir, and several times won “Nun’s Cika cross” at the choir competitions in Zadar.

He was awarded with «Orlando» prize in 1999. and in 2002. he won a special award from City of Dubrovnik authorities.
